Codec has undertaken a number of discrete projects for the National Library as part of the Digital NZ initiative.

The first project was the development of the ‘harvester’ for the Armistice Day Coming Home themed search portal. Development of the ‘harvester’ required Codec to use its Java development resources who have specialised search and harvesting expertise.

Codec designed and implemented the DNZ Harvesting Suite which allows the gathering of sitemap based content sources, a metadata service to harvest data from disparate sources and allows its storage in a consistent format and the web-based Item Service which returns an XML representation of records held in the metadata repository

Subsequent projects have extended and refined these core services to include tools which have to date harvested over 1.3m records, the provision of a web-based metadata thumbnail service, a Sitemap Generator indexed by Digital NZ allowing indexing by other search providers, such as Google.
