LeasePlan NZ is part of an international financial services business whose principal activity is car leasing. Providers of LeasePlan cars enter into a contract to undertake regular servicing of the vehicles. Reimbursement claims for these services had to be logged into LeasePlan's own tracking system, incurring significant costs.

The requirement was to provide a user friendly web application (Maintenance Self Service Tool) to enable providers to enter the details and to automate the reimbursement process.

Using Microsoft .NET technologies, an ‘agile’ extreme programming approach and test driven development, Codec was able to deliver the finished and tested solution within six weeks. While this was very tight, the approach and the reuse of design patterns from Codec’s extensive library were key factors in the project's success.

The project was based on two week’s initial validation of the existing specs and solution architecture, followed by four weeks of development iterations. Each iteration delivered functioning software and while LeasePlan where initially sceptical of changing from the traditional waterfall approach, the effectiveness of the weekly delivery of usable software converted them.
